‘A Certain Man’: Jean Toomer
A certain man wishes to be a prince
Of this earth; he also wants to be
A saint and master of the being-world.
Conscience cannot exist in the first:
The second cannot exist without conscience.
Therefore he, who has enough conscience
To be disturbed but not enough to be
Compelled, can neither reject the one
Nor follow the other...
With but the idea or drive
To do something
Actions need to be made
One’s actions make a difference in the world
They are what separate a dreamer from a hero
Fear is not reason to stop
To simply stand along the sidelines while injustice goes on
There are others I’m sure
Although they
Like you
Need a leader
Be the one to stand up and challenge the odds
If not, who will?
Jean Toomer - Tell Me
Tell me, dear beauty of the dusk,
When purple ribbons bind the hill,
Do dreams your secret wish fulfill,
Do prayers, like kernels from the husk
Come from your lips? Tell me if when
The mountains loom at night, giant shades
Of softer shadow, swift like blades
Of grass seeds come to flower. Then
Tell me if the night winds bend
Them towards me, if the Shenandoah
As it ripples past your shore,
Catches the soul of what you send.
What if ...

__________
What if it didnt count?
Why does mankind hate people based on race? Why does ignorance, education, or government decide our place? For we are the same regardless of the color of our face. What if the love we share in our hearts was shown to all, and life was forever a ball. What if we all just acted like sisters and brothers and friends? Cause the day that all hate and anger is released thats when we'll all live in peace .
